About Tina Filippino

Tina Filippino has always loved to sing and created the Letz Sing Community of choirs in order to share the wonder and joy she feels when voices come together in harmony.

Tina's first experience with community singing was at a workshop led by Ann Mortifee and Shivon Robinsong in 1993.  The method of using call and response to learn melodies and harmonies impressed her because it fit well with the way she learned music herself, and the workshop helped her to find new confidence and depth to her voice.

Tina Erickson - letz sing choirTen years later, in the fall of 2004, Tina had the opportunity to participate in the first ever Community Choir Leadership Training program offered by Shivon Robinsong and Denis Donnelly of the Gettin' Higher Choir in Victoria, BC. This was an incredible experience for her and it sparked an excitement for sharing music. After a few weeks of intense instruction she came home to try out her new conducting skills with eleven friends.

A year later her choir had grown to three locations and included over 150 registered members!  It was clear that people wanted to sing and were looking for a place to do it.  Since that time, Tina has been committed to creating weekly choir sessions that allow people to experience the positive influence of group singing. Her passion for music, her skill as an educator, and her willingness to lead by example all contribute to the uplifting musical environment she is able to facilitate.

Whether the group is large or small, Tina is able to help people appreciate the beauty and significance of the human voice and harmony. She has led singing groups of all sizes and dynamics in various communities, hosting workshops and special events all over Vancouver Island. She opened the World Community Film Festival at the Sid Williams Theatre in Courtenay, BC transforming an audience of 520 people into an energetic choir, many for the first time.  She also led a singing circle for 75 teachers from School District 72 in Campbell River at a dinner sponsored by the Wellness Committee. A community celebration of new pesticide bylaws was hosted by the local Valley Green environmental group and was attended by 150 people who experienced the community of group singing. Tina has also opened various fundraising events for local Steven Lewis grandmother groups.

"Tina has an incredible ability to infuse joy into the groups she leads.  Singing the peace chant with the 150 people of all ages at our community celebration on Thanksgiving weekend was pure magic!"  Kelli McGrady, Valley Green
